2005 Range Rover HSE, 2008 BMW M3 Cab d/c, 2010 GL550 (wifes), 1993 Porsche 928GTS 32kmi garage quee
TPM indicated low pressure warning. Told the wife to take it to gas station as likely had a puncture. They looked at it and said needed to replace all 4 immediately as there was exposed metal on inside of tires. I was completely surprised because appeared main tread had at least 5-10k remaining. Replaced all 4 at Discount tire with OEM Pirelli at $407 each. We had 31k miles on it. I came here looking for advice prior to purchase as I couldn't believe what a strange wear pattern.

I bought a 2012 GL550 last year and it had 4 new Pirelli tires. I've only added 13K miles of sub-urban driving and I've been informed by my dealer that 2 tires have only 4mm left, and the other has only 2mm tread left... wtf!!

Tires have worn out in 13K miles? I'm thinking of trying the Continentals but this is completely ridiculous.

I don't know about your Pirelli tires, but my tires had 1/4" of tread (measured to the wear bars) when new. So, give or take, that's 6mm. Wear down to 4mm front, 2mm back would put your tires at about exactly half life. So rotate them front to rear.

Get a $25 dial caliper from Home Depot. It has a depth gauge on it. Monitor your tires' wear, and adjust the pressures to get you to even wear across the tread. I've been able to get to an almost perfect wear pattern by doing this, but it takes patience. My last set wore almost perfectly, and I got 40k miles out of them.

Even with perfect pressures, the tires will wear faster in the rear than the front. I'm pretty sure this is due to weight distribution.

Has anyone considered changing wheels? How do tires last on the 450s?

For those of you whos tires showed inner tread wear, was your alignment off, any pulling, drifting, steering wheel cocked to one side more than the other?
