Keyless go key learning time/procedure?
I just got a new replacement KEYLESS-GO key from MBUSA to replace the one the prior owner of our '08 held on to.
First off, what's the procedure for teaching the vehicle to recognize the key? I've looked in the manual, no dice. I've called teleaid, who told me to call roadside assistance. Roadside assistance told me to put it in the lock and turn the key to position 2. For a "while". When I asked them to define "a while" I got no sound answer.
I spent 45 minutes with the key in the ignition with the "key teach-in progress" alert on the display. 45 minutes later key has learned to unlock doors and start the car, nothing abnormal and I can shift to D and R and here's where it gets scary.
The car says it's in D/R but it's actually in N. It revs freely and if on an incline, the car would roll. What the hell? Luckily I have another key that works full up round. Needless to say I can't use that key until it's fully recognized, but I just wanted to put that out there.
How long does it take?
