Seat belt rattle

Does anyone's front passenger seat belt rattle when the seat is unoccupied? I noticed this when going over rough roads. The seat belt attachment knocks against the center console and grab handle.

I finally broke down and placed a piece of thick adhesive (black) felt on the back side of the seat belt unit to minimize the knocking against the central console.

noticed the same thing a while back and simply pushed it firmly away from the center console once and it never came back.

I tried that but whenever someone readjusted the passenger's seat it repositioned the unit and started knocking again.

On my 09, there is a rubber cover over the bar that extends down to the seat base that has a bumper to keep the buckle itself from getting anywhere near the console. It sounds like MB might not have installed this on your car at the factory.

Have the rubber cover neck on mine but even then the buckle finds its way to the grab handle or center tunnel.

You have the cover that looks like the one in the picture? There is no way mine can hit anything. The cover has a bumper/spacer that keeps it from making contact. Obviously, it is designed to address your specific concern. Unless the cover was deformed, there is no way the buckle could make contact with anything. I would have your dealership fix it if it is worth the hassle.

I was just in my car and noticed that you could indeed get the buckle to hit the center console if you raised the seat to its highest or close to highest position. If you do have the cover like the one in the picture, I guess you could just try lowering the passenger seat slightly when no one is riding in it. At its highest position, the seat is pretty darn high. I'm not sure why a passenger would need it that high.

43221B, yes and yes. Mine has the accordion type cover. However, as you pointed out if the seat is set high and close to the front it will still hit the center tunnel. My mom often sits in the front and being Asian (read short) we tend to have the seat forward. =]

Wouldn't sticking a small pc of black Velcro material avail at any hardware store solve this problem? There will still be contact, but no rattle/clacking of hard vs hard surfaces. In fact, several German cars I've owned came with that to prevent just this problem.

My solution is turn the volume up on Siirius Classic Rewind. ;-)
