2011 GL350 - MB Extended Warranty?
I just ordered my 2011 GL350 (Steel Gray, leather package, P2, Parktronic, blind spot assist, lighting package, heated and ventilated seats, 3-zone climate control, rear seat entertainment, IR glass, running boards, and trailer hitch...whew, what a mouthful) and it's due to arrive sometime mid to late August. Needless to say, I'm a bit excited and can't wait to receive my first MB.
I had inquired about extended warranty with my dealer and he actually told me that I might consider going with a 3rd party. One reason is because MB doesn't allow you to sell back, or rather receive credit, for any unused benefits whereas some 3rd party providers will. Can anyone provide any insight or share your experiences? What is the approximate cost for a 7yr/10k mile extended warranty?

That's incorrect. You should get credited for unused portion for both MB extended warranty and prepaid maintenance. Shop around -- prices vary dramatically. You will probably get a better deal if you get both (warranty & maintenance)

You need to order IR glass separately as a special order. There's a 1 time special order charge of $250. IR glass really works. Keeps the heat out and cools the car down quickly.

I was told that MB warranty can be transffered to 3rd party when sold, but you will not get any credit if you sell it back to the dealer. I remember reading something similar when I bought MB ELW (3Yrs / upto 100,000 mile) recently on my one month old GL 350. I tried to shop around, and the best offer I got was $4400. 3rd party my dealer offered ( through Premier Dealer Service Vehicle Service Contract) was $2900 for the same duration. I decided to go with MB for peace of mind and less hassle. Half of dealers told me to stick with MB.
