Front license plate

Hi, I'm new MBWorld and I have a question. I need to install a front license plate on my GL450. I have the license plate frame and I need to know how to mount it to the bumper. I see where the frame is supposed to fit, but when I drill the holes, it will go into the styrofoam behind the bumper. Will it stay on without nuts? I don't have any help on this, so I need your input Thanks!

Huh. Cool. I almost wish Arizona required a front plate now. (Almost!)

I really want my plate mounted in the middle, not off center. I'm a college fan and reallly need my mascot plate on my car - I know a sacrelige to the benz. I just really need to know will the screws fall out because I can't get behind bumper to add nuts.

No offense but I think it looks retarded. Makes it look like an Evo. I'd rather put it on the center, perhaps put couple of custom made brackets under the bumper extending out a little.

I'm guessing you bought the GL used? Otherwise the dealers are usually pretty nice about installing at no charge. Might be a good way to get to know your local dealer?

Try the closest hardware store or look online for: "Nutserts".

When I mounted my plate frame I used #10 short sheet metal screws (stainless steel to avoid rust). They are available with either slotted head or hex head which ever you find easiest. Measure twice, mark where your holes will be with a Sharpie using the plate holder as a guide, and drill the SMALLEST size hole you will need. The plastic bumper will push out of the way and the point sticking into the foam is no big deal. The large size of the threads in the sheet metal screws hold very well in the plastic. The frame has not come loose at all.
