brake set-up for GL's
I recently discovered the following: there were in 2008 TWO different front brake set-ups (at least for the 320CDI) - one base system that came with the 18" wheels set-up and an "upgraded" system (read larger rotors, calipers and brake pads) that came when the 19" wheels option was purchased. The later has approx. 10% larger pads and, i would think, better stopping power.
I do not know if this was extended to the other 2008 GL series or to other model years.
HOWEVER, some 2008 320 GL's that were ordered with the 19" wheels (option code 335) DID NOT receive the larger brakes ... for some as yet unknown reason!
hence, when buying front brake pads, do check your truck before you buy them!
i have filed a complaint with MBUSA and will post the results.

You've got no basis for any complaint.

with all due respect, i do not agree with you -
I purchased the car with the 19" rims so that i could get the larger brakes ... and i did not get them (eventhough the build sheet on the car showed the proper option and the car came with the 19" rims set-up), but was still charged for the option!

frabouden - do you happen to know if the early builds with 19" rims had the beefier brakes or the later ones? Mine was built with 19" wheels because I ordered the car with crossbars for the luggage rack (that's what the sales guy said I had to get to get the crossbars). It would be a great plus if it also happened to come with bigger brakes. I have since changed to 18" rims because the Contis were such junk and the choices among 19" tires were very limited.
