GL Debadged
I had been considering debadging the GL for a few months, so I finally decided to take care of it. I suppose there are equally as many reasons to leave it alone as there were to debadge it. With the GL 350 badge on one side and Blutec on the other, the back end looked rather busy to me. As everyone on this mbworld.org board said, it was rather easy to do and took no more than 15 - 20 minutes. That was mostly spent getting the gummy residue off the paint. Since I spend time reading these posts I thought I would contribute although in a minor way.

Dangit man, when we're out driving we speed read the *** ends of other GL's in traffic to see who the other diesel drivers are...if there's a bunch of letters, we know.
How we spose to know now?

LOL - There is still that big BLUEEFFICIENCY logo on the side Fender... we'll keep that as our code for being DIESEL! Chatter on!

I thought about that and whether or not the MB dealer would know it was a diesel when I brought it in for maintenance. I agree with nynd, the big blue badge on the fender should work for us diesel drivers. When I speak with my service advisor I tell him upfront that I am rather **** retentive and not to screw up my SUV. It is surprising that I know more about my ride than the MB service advisors. Hopefully, the mechanics (or computer techs nowadays) are well versed in distinguishing a diesel motor from a gasoline one.

Funny, I say almost the exact same thing. I got so tired of them screwing things up that I started telling them not to wash the outside or clean the inside. They drive me nuts. I can take my black GL in for service washed and hand waxed and they will return it to me washed (with their sandpaper car wash machine) with water spots all over it. Last service I put a piece of 8.5x11 on the console that said, please don't wash inside or out. Guess what, they washed it AND used shampoo on my carpet (it did not need it) placing my rubber mats on top of soaking wet carpet. What I learned after addressing it with my advisor is that the cleaning of cars is contracted out to a third party at my dealership. The car wash company then bills the dealership for each car washed. I might have to pay someone to babysit my GL the next time it is serviced.

Gee, my diesel sounds like a diesel and not a gasser! However, you are right, the stealership service advisors still may not know the difference. Still best to tell them what they are servicing. Ha.

I think it looks great! how did you get the gummy residue off - what product did you use that didn't do any damage to the paint...? did you have to get it waxed right afterwards? i just had mine waxed and polished and wondering if it need to have it redone if i remove the decals...? cheers....

I used "Goof Off" for my particular removal. Most solvents/cleaners such as goo gone, Goof Off, or Oops! contain xylene as the primary solvent. Not much different than using gasoline to dissolve the adhesive. As the earlier poster said, once complete you have to wax the area.
