Extended Warranties/Costs
I plan on purchasing a 2011 Mercedes GL450 within the next month and because I plan on keeping this vehicle for 5-7 years what is my best option regarding extended warranties?
What company provides the best overall extended warranty for this car including electronics and what is the usual cost of this type of warranty?
Is the extended warranty a better program to buy when the vehicle is new or should I want until the factory is nearly ready to expire?
What is the difference between buying an extended warranty from MB or private online companys?
Normally I buy and sell my vehicles within 2-3 years but because of retirement in 5 years I am purchasing this vehicle to keep for a longer period of time. I average 10-12,000 mile a year and drive mostly city roadways.

If you want to buy third party warranty, wait 6-12 months before your warranty expires. If you want to buy an MB warranty, it is time now. But the only downside for MB warranty that they will go up to 6yrs from the in service date. MB warranties cover the most, if you buy third party exclusionary coverage, which is the highest but still doesn't cover as much as MB warranty would but it cheaper than MB.
I have Warranty from Universal Warranty Corporation (Auto Max) and I paid 3400 for 4yrs from the purchase date or 100k miles. HTH

I bought my warranty at 3 years and 20000 miles and was able to get additional coverage of 7 years or 120000 miles. Deductible is $200 and it covers command and electronics. Expires in 2017 or 120000 miles.
