Dead Battery '10
For those with '10 BlueTec's
I live in the Sierra's and started having an issue where the car would not start this past summer. Push ignition - nothing: wife calls me to solve issue. Add jumper cables, car starts: get on with my day. Battery issue - no?
As the problem continued to occur, and its frequency increased with the onset of winter we finally had the dealer pick the car up one morning on a flatbed when it would not start: I drive the kids to school and rescheduled my day.
Dealer- ignition faults according to codes in the system.
Fix - replace ignition.
Dealer - inverts two numbers of VIN in ignition and now electronics do not work properly.
Fix - return car to dealer and wife is driving GLK: again!
Dealer - realizes they need software from MB that has not been written yet as no ignition has ever been replaced on a '10 before. waiting on German engineers. Why would we have this SW written - the ignition will not fail!
Fix - wife still driving GLK and dog has taken over back seat (its the dealers car)
Dealer - car ready: wife has sense to go through every elec system and sunroof not working.
Fix - wife still driving GLK
Dealer - burned out the sunroof motor somehow and will be pulling roof out to replace.
Fix - wife still driving GLK
Dealer - more tomorrow.

My has not gotten so bad that it ever failed to start after 3 or 4 pushes of the keyless entry button but I am taking it in next month for the 10K service and will have my dealer check for codes. I had it in yesterday to repair a nail in a run flat but forget to mention it. They did some recall update to the software but the SA couldn't tell me what it was for.

I had an 08 GL 320 CDI that had this issue. It all boiled down to the rear hatch SAM setting and the closing mechanism not completely locking properly causing a very mild drain on the battery causing the battery to go dead after a short while. Would start right up with a jump. Took the dealer a while to solve the problem. Then there was a second issue of the same dead battery with an issue with the overhead console causing a small drain. Again after a long visit to the dealer, they solved the issue. I wrote several posts about it. You can search the posts for dead battery. Just some ideas to give to your dealer to check. I have an 11 350 bluetec now. Only 2k miles so far with no issues. Good luck solving the problem.
