which tire for "20 wheels on GL450 ???
i have the optional "20 wheels (8.5 J x 20 ET 56) , those wheels require 275/50/20 tires. there are very limited choices for that spec. if i go w/ slightly different size i have many more choices..i can get the tire i want and 100 dollars cheaper per tire.. i want to get the Yokohama parada spec X. should i switch with 285/50/20 OR 275/55/20 OR 265/50/20 ??? all these tires meet the recommended load index and speed rating what would be a better choice for my wheels and why?
PS.. a one liner from the fanatic would be " get the tire MB recommends"".. i've seen that guy do that a 1000 times..&pls excuse me..

I would maybe look into another tire then. It felt like I was driving on marbles. They were awful! They are a great summer tire, and even do good in large amounts of rain...but snow and ice not so much.

I haven't used those before...maybe someone else on here can jump in and give you some feed back. I have had the best luck in the snow with the Run Flats, but they are so expensive. My dad just put a cheaper tire on his GL and said they do awesome in the snow. I will call and find out for you what they are.

Ok, so I just looked at my dad's tires. He got Mastercraft Courser HTR Plus in the 285/50R/20. He said they were $650 out the door. He is very happy with the way they handle in the snow and said they are not too loud at freeway speeds. He however he has no idea at their longevity as he has never had them before, but for $650 who really cares? LOL!

I am very pleased with them, quiet, smooth, handle well. They are nitrogen filled and are wearing well at 20,000 miles. Roads are good here and I always drive in sport suspension setting. I drive the Navigator in the snow and on the farm so I can' answer off road performance. Also have a similar OE tire on my Carrera have no complaints.

On my '09 GL450, I bought the Yokohama Prada Spec X. I went with the 285/50R/20. They fit perfect and looked really nice. I got about 17,000 miles out of them with heavy mountain driving. The only downfall is they did AWFUL in the snow and ice. Not sure where you live, but if you encounter snow, you will definitely need chains with these tires.
Just wanted to check in and ask.... so with the 285/50 r20's there was no rubbing on wheel arches etc? Even with sports mode suspension setting?
If this is the case im changing next round of tyres... way cheaper and there's even a cooper LTZ that would do the job in the paddock!
