Another Extended Waranty Question...
My opinion is that since GLs have only been on the road a maximum of 5 years (they were launched in 2006 at MY07) there hasn't been too much data on the value of extended warranties.
That said, I have 82,000 miles on mine. Just a few months ago, my Comand unit went out. The nav DVD made a funny sound, and then it stopped completely. The Comand unit needed to be replaced, along with the Nav DVD. The cost was $2600, I paid my $100 deductible. My personal case is I'm at break even. I have 18 months or 18,000 miles left on it.
If I was to do it again, I'm not sure what I would do. My main concern was to protect against a major issue, engine blown, transmission, etc. I have to admit in following this forum I don't see anyone having these problems.

Don't let them sell you an MB extended warranty.
I got burned on an MB extended warranty on my '03 ML500. I had a 4 year, 50K factory warranty and purchased a 5yr, 100K extension. Turns out it really isn't a 5yr 100K warranty but a 1 year or 50K extension.
Here's what happened to me. At about 60,000 miles I head a front wheel bearing go out. Since I was over my factory warranty on miles, it used my extended warranty. It was about 3 years old at the time.
15 months later, at 80,000 miles I had a water pump go out. The truck was 4 years old and 80K miles. The dealer told me my extended warranty was expired since I only get an additonal year after the factory warranty expired.
I have to say my dealer was good. They gave me a substantial discount on the service, but I'd never get a MB warranty again, in fact when I bought my GL450 a few weeks ago the dealer wasn't even selling them. I bought a different warranty but have no experience with it yet.
I think it is worth a try (to go no warranty) if you have an independant, because the cost of the repairs are much more affordable....if at the dealer only, I would buy the ext warranty.
I only have 34k on my 07 gl450 and have had zero repairs in four years...just oil changes at the dealership.

In talking in confidence with a service rep, he recommended that I do not purchase this expensive policy. It very rarely makes financial sense, as these vehicles have, for the most part, been reliable.
I am not going to purchase and will wait patiently for the new GL model. I will update if anything major happens.
By the way, if you are contemplating purchasing a new MB, be sure to join the Mercedes Auto Club. After one year of membership, you get $ 1000.00 off any vehicle.(after any negotiations you can make)
