strange whining sound when cold

Problem with the 2007 Mercedes-Benz Mercedes Benz Gl 450
My 2007 Gl450 ...when it is cold weather and i start it, it sounds really loud, kind of whining in the engine. It takes until it is really warmed up to stop. It is loud enough that you can hear it from inside too, but super loud from the outside. What could it be?
