Residual Heat comes on automatically?

Residual Heat comes on automatically?
Tonight, I went into the garage after driving for 60 miles and noticed the residual heat was on. I heard the blower and checked inside the car to confirm the REST light was on.
The strange thing is I did not push the REST button -- yes I am sure. And it was over a hour after I turned off the engine. When I opened the passenger front door, it turned off. Same thing happened once before. I can't tell if this is a malfunction or does this automatically if the engine is very hot to cool it off.
Does anyone know?

I have never seen the light come on, but if it is humid, it the blower will run after your ride to keep mold from forming in the system. Dries it out a bit.

Doesn't sound normal - especially if you're sure you didn't hit the button.
The REST button will use the engine's residual heat to continue to blow warm air for a while (I remember seeing maybe an hour in the manual) after the engine has been turned off. I know my old SL did the same thing with the A/C & it knew which you were last using.

To the OP - did you ever find out why this was happening? My 2010 does the same thing and I'm positive I do not hit the button prior to getting out of the vehicle...
Thanks,
Will

GL450 CLS500
I have the same issue with my 2010 GL450. My 2006 CLS has the rest option and it definitely only comes on when I push the button before I shut the car off and the red light is illuminated.
I have also noticed I will go out to the garage a while after shutting the GL off and the rest will be running and I definitely did not turn it on. Manual was of no help.

it is automatic feature on 2010 and up to prevent mold build up.
I did not have automatic on 2008 GL but have it now on 2011 GL after speaking to service they confirm it.
I had some issues of bad odour coming from vents on 2008 due to humidity but so far good this winter in 2011 nice clean air for now.
