Those wheels suit the GL really well...the nicest looking wheel I have seen so far here!

Please pm me price for this set up, im looking to get wheels for my 2011 GL but i think i will go with the same wheel tire size all around. Also please give a price for 21" and 22" with ruber. Looking to get them asap. Where is your stare located? By the way they look really good on a GL.

2008 cls550
this is an old post. i know i know. but this is the only pic i can find online of a gl550 with a staggered setup. btw i dig the look. very nice.

i want to garner some feedback on whether staggered setups on performance suv's are okay with the automotive gods or if they are just plain wrong. every performance suv i've seen has the same size on all fours, and three piece rims would always have the same big lip, instead of a smaller lip in front.

now the reason i care is that i have hre 948's from my cls550 sitting around in the garage, and i was thinking of slapping them on my 2011 gl550. they are 20X9 front and 20X11 rear, with a huge outer lip for the rears. on one hand, i could have the fronts rebarreled so they are all 20x11 and go with the same size 305/50/20's on all four corners, but what if...

i could put 275/55/20 front and 305/50/20 rear which will have the same rolling diameter as each other (off by .31 inches).

pros:
1) i'll be able to dust off the 3-piece forged hre's sitting around in my garage and put them to use.
2) the tires will cost ~$1000 less and will last 3X as long and give me decent year-round performance
3) the unsprung weight will go down considerably by moving to forged wheels of a smaller size.
4) taller tires will provide much cushier ride that the wife would appreciate (the ride/handling tradeoff leans towards ride for the lady)
5) unique look that gives a sporty vibe (lol)

cons:
1) looks - i'll be going from 21's to 20's all around with much taller rubber. this might be offset by taller tires, as the roling diameter will go up about 5" on all four corners.
2) performance - i'll be going from 295's to 275's in the front, adding more of a tendency to understeer and less footprint for braking. i think this is offset by electronic nannies that are very aggressive and kick in well before we'd be able to tell the difference.
3) road feel - going from aspect ratio of 40 to a tall 55 in front, as well as 40 to 50 in back. steering will be spongier and so will reflexes in general. however, i don't mind compromising some performance for a softer ride for the wife and kids.

i think i'm at piece with the ride/handling/performance aspects of the swap, but still nervous about the looks. so, is it just plain wrong to put staggered wheels on an awd suv, or am i the coolest guy you know?
