New Owner - Breakin recommendations

Sorry to bother y'all...
Do you have any recommendations on how to 'breakin' a new GL 350 BlueTEC?

I just got it yesterday (odo had 12 and I drove 20 miles today).
Awesome SUV... my first!

I believe the owners manual suggests that you keep the rpm down to 2/3 max rpm during acceleration and not to drive it at a constant speed for long periods of time. Constant speed would be freeway driving with the cruise on. 1000 miles is the break in period. Also mentions something about using the engine to brake via the paddles. Having said that, I found that keeping the engine below 2/3 max rpm to be very difficult since it was my first diesel. After you drive it for awhile you find that throttle control becomes second nature. I've got 25000 miles on mine and the engine and transmission are as smooth as day one. I had a 2010 Cadillac Escalade rental a few weeks ago and it blew me away how nice the diesel engine and transmission are in my GL vs the gas engine and transmission in the Escalade. I gained a huge appreciation for how good the GL really is.

Wow. thanks for the tip, guys. I will try to keep it at max 3K RPM for now till 1000 miles.. mostly drive in the city, so will have variable speed. Cant wait for my first road trip! : )

I got mine a little more than one month ago. Now has 1200 miles. The only thing I did is warm up for 2-3 minutes at morning. Everything else is regular driving. So far - the best car I ever had.

I have my wife driving it with the little children, so the break in was a non issue, just drive it normally....unlike my C63 AMG, I definetely paid more attention to it, following many different theories. Besides, I dont get to much of a thrill stomping on the Bluetec engine, its just an efficient motor that gets the job done.
