Install Rear Tri-Zone Climate Control

Is it possible to order and install the Rear Climate Control (Tri-Zone) for my kids? Has anyone done this or attempted to do this?

It shows that you have a 2011 GL550. If I am not mistaken, your GL should already have that option.

Are you looking to install just the THERMOTRONIC controller (in the rear of the console) or the supplemental air conditioner with separate compressor (vents in ceiling, compressor in rear cargo area)?

It would be easier and most likely cheaper to trade vehicles.

A few different ones
Are they not getting enough A/C ... when we first got our GL450 I was surprised to not see the rear tri-zone Climate control because the one in the showroom had it and I didn't realize it was an option. We had a similiar feature in our Volvo XC90 so it was strange all of a sudden the kids didn't have their own controls.

Meanwhile in over 2 3/4 years of ownership the only complaint from my kids is to turn down the A/C ...

You need to keep in mind we live in New York so if I were from a hotter climate this might be a 'must have'

I Live in South Florida and I barely use the rear climate control. Never had a complaint from the kids. If I could do it again, I would have left it off of my options list.

My Escalade rental had rear climate control a few weeks ago and all my kids did was complain about it either being too hot or too cold. In two years of ownership I have never heard a complaint from my kids about the temperature in the GL and I do not have the three zone climate control. I've had my black GL in South Florida too.

Thanks, for your thoughts guys, I think i'll stick without it. It's not worth to have to pay probably around $3500.00 from what my dealer told me to add it to the car not including work hours.

I agree that adding it makes no sense financially.

We did not have it on our '10 GL. And we do have it in our '11. We really wanted/needed it as we always have a child in the 3rd row. As hot as it is in Dallas, it is needed. The 3rd row passenger often complained.

All is good now that we have it. And I agree that it should be standard on this vehicle and not an option.
