I have a V1 mounted high on the front windshield just left of the rearview mirror and for some reason I'm having difficulty picking up signals that are in front of me. I've swapped it out with another V1 and same problem. I sent it back to valentine and they said it was fine. They said the behavior is suspicious of a metallic film or tint on the window which I certainly did not put on. The unit works fine in my C-class.

Anyone else have issues like this?

do you have the ir glass on your GL? That can cause the interference you are speaking of.

I had never heard of IR glass or "blue" glass as is apparently the case on the 550's. But that makes sense as being the culprit.

So what's the solution if my GL550 has the "blue" glass? They said with IR glass there are 3 non-coated spots.

I had to find the little square (you can see it outside the car) that is located a little to the right of center in my S-Class in order for my Valentine to work correctly.

I can't seem to find any non-coated spots on my 550 and I'm still having issues with my V1.

Anyone have any suggestions besides replacing the glass?

GL 550 doesn't have IR glass, it has blue glass.

Buy a remote mounted detector. That is the ultimate solution and you don't have to mount on the windshield.
