Tire size question.
Hello all.
My GL350 has Bridgestone RF 275/50 R20 and I'd like to buy regular tires. Do you guys know if I can switch to 285/50 R20 using the same 20" wheel ? Does anybody use them ? Also, does anybody know where can I buy compact spare for GL ?
Also, if anybody wants to buy my Bridgestones - let me know. The car has 4K miles on them.
Thanks.

Short answer is yes. We have OE accessory catalog wheels with Hankook Ventus AS 285/50/20. No problems. Wheel size is 20 x 8.5, so shouldn't be any different other than the .5% (ish) difference in tire overall height.
Ride is great, I'd recommend the tire if you haven't picked one.

I'm buying a compact spare from the dealer. Since switching out my stock runflats, I feel this is needed for those long road trips with wifey and kids. Will be skiing a lot this winter and definitely don't want to be stuck in middle of nowhere without spare.

I think they sell only a wheel. Tire is not included.

I got a dealer quote for roughly $500 for the spare (rim+tire). Special order from Germany. Don't forget I'm in Canada so price should be less expensive for you guys down there.

This is a must-have.
Like aeggroup said, I plan on bringing the spare only for extended road trips and it goes in the cargo area with the rest of the stuffs.

Bridgestone 275/50's
Just switched my Bridgestone 275/50-R20's for 285/50-R20's on my 2011 GL 450 with appearance package.
When I Traded 2009 GL 450 and compared it to '11, '09 seemed to ride quieter and smoother than the '11 car, but I had changed the tires on the '09. Didn't think it would make much difference.
OEM Bridgestones wore out and were always noisey and rough riding. Couldn't find Bridgestone OEM size. Put on Yokohama 285/50-R20's. Have a couple of hundred miles on them but they are very quiet and absorb bumps much better than Bridgestones. Give them a try. Discount Tire: 4 mounted for under $800 vs. $1200 if I had found Bridgestones.
