Front/rear brake pads and rotors: $2400???
Is this about right? My car has 33k miles, lots of stop and go local driving so not surprised brakes need replacement already.

Go to www.getmercedesparts.com - look for brake parts and you will see how much parts cost. Do not ask or go to dealer to do it. Find local shop with good reputation and do it there. I know one shop in Brooklyn if you need - PM me.

Thanks folks. the "Brake wear" indicator just came on today. How long do you think before I absolutely must get them changed? $600-800 for all 4 brake pads, rotors, and labor? I do plan to get a quote locally. That $2400 quote was from the dealer, which included brake pads, new rotors and labor for all 4 corners.

That's way too expensive. You can get OE brake rotors and pads front and rear for less than $500 delivered & aftermarket ones for less than $250 delivered. Shouldn't be more than $100 per corner to be installed.
It's crazy that you need new rotors and pads already. I can understand pads but the rotors should be fine unless you damaged them by waiting too long to change the pads. My rotors have 100,000 miles and shoud be good for a while.

The brake wear indicator just came on yesterday. How long can i drive on them? I have to go somewhere this weekend and drive 200 miles. Can this wait til next week you think? They squeak a little just before i come to a complete stop. No squeaks when i hit the brakes to slow down.

So turns out I needed front rotors. So I got front rotors, and both front and rear pads replaced for $740. Man, I forgot how nice new brakes feel. Car feels less "heavy". still lovin' the truck.

The new 2012 ML diesel has moved the AdBlu tank and has reintroduced (drum roll please) THE SPARE TIRE! Let's hope there is proliferation of this novel idea.

I go one better. I ignore the pad wear indicators (for some reason they only put them on one of the two pads, giving you a 50% chance of actually benefiting from it) and go by the grinding sound. When I get tired of terrifying pedestrians, I change the whole mess out.
