GL450 4X4 Off Road

Hi Guys,

I took my GL450 up to the mountains for a little off road fun and thought I would share some of the photos. I was quite impressed with the traction the truck provided even with my nearly worn out tires. The forest service roads and trails were dry and loosely packed with some stumps and rocks to climb over. The trails were much steeper than they appear in the photos. I was worried I might get stuck so I screwed in the front recovery hook but never had to use it. The truck managed to maintain forward progress up the hill even when on three wheels. (pretty cool to see the brakes grab the wheel that was in the air from spinning while the other three propelled it upward).

Thanks for the pics. Pretty mild stuff but still it's always fun to get out there. Do you have the "off road package" and what does that include? also, what size rims are those?

Nice! This is what offroading is all about. Don't let anyone tell you it's all about rock crawling and showing off, been there. Enjoy!

Nstar,
Yeah it was pretty mild by most standards but it was funny seeing people out there with other 4X4 rigs stop to watch me climb up the grade in the GL. It's to bad the photos don't really show how steep the trail was. Next time I'll have to find something more challenging. Mine does not have the off road package which would have inlcuded selectable locking differentials and low range. The wheels are the factory 19's and the tires are Continentals.

Great pictures! The GL is an amazing beast.... can get "down and dirty" with the best of them! Mine does have the "enhanced off road package".... I locked the rear diff only once...... that was to get out of some really deep snow!
