Hi All.

What do you guys think about new look of 2012 ML. I saw it today on the streets of NYC couple times from different angels. This SUV looks like ...hmm...crap IMO (exterior). I'm asking about ML because it's going to be a base for new GL. So what is your opinion ?

I never have liked the looks of the ML and thought the GL has always looked better, but that's just a matter of opinion. So the new ML doesn't change that although we don't know what the new GL will look like yet.

I did sit in the new ML's interior and liked the new layout. I can't believe its taking them this long to add the "puck" to control the COMAND.

 

i saw one at the grocery store parking lot. it is indeed hideous. It's one of those rare cars that look worse in person than in the pictures. The front fender area in particular looks very awkward when you look at it from the rear or when standing by the driver's door. kind of reminds me of swollen cheeks after getting your wisdom teeth pulled.

 

Anyone know if dealers are blowing out 2011 ML63s?

 

I've been looking at the interior since I suspicious the new GL will have much in common on this front. A few observations.

• It looks like the RSEs are back to being integrated with the headrest like my 2007
• I like the ambient lighting at it's variable color
• Not sure what I think of the seat controls being on the door up above the window/mirror controls
• I am glad to finally see a puck for Comand.

 

That's the classic location for seat controls in Benzes. The GL was the odd man out in that respect.

Benz customers are old, and reaching down below the seat is hard.

That's what I was thinking, too, except that the C300 I had as a service loaner last week had the puck and it really wasn't much of an improvement, IMHO.

Haha, the picture you painted doesn't look too pretty

I haven't seen one in the flesh yet but pics so far haven't impressed me either. I'm afraid to find out what they look like in person .

 

I had my GL in for service last week and saw a couple at the dealership. They are just ok. I need to see one with larger wheels and an AMG sport package or something. I too have never been much of a fan of the ML styling.

 

I test drove a 2012 ML this weekend. It's a very nice vehicle - interior is beautiful, the exterior is nothing special. I was intrigued by the 17/22 mpg fuel economy since that's pretty good for an SUV, and an improvement over the 2011 ML. But ultimately, I concluded that I need a third row, and opted to go for a GL350 instead. Got a really good deal on a 2011, so hopefully should close the deal this week. Can't wait to get 20mpg from the diesel - a nice improvement over my Range Rover. And I actually think the styling of the current GL is nicer than the 2012 ML (although the interior of the new ML is a little nicer).

 

You'll get better than that. I average 21-22 around town and 26-27 on the highway in my 2011.

I spent some time poking around one at the dealer this week. I played with the NAV & the Command and was disappointed - although it has the puck to scroll around more easily, the basic interface and display are still the clunky old thing that I have in my 2010. It's just not up to it's class standards. One GOOD thing, though is that the female voice doesn't speak as S-L-O-W-L-Y as in the past.
THE BIG NEWS is that they have found a place for the AdBlu tank so the diesel will have a real spare tire!

 

I hope they do that with the GL then too.
