GL450 Roof Rack / Cross Bar rubber insert
I'm new to this forum, and would appreciate some help with a noise issue with my OEM rook rack system for my GL450.
I recently purchased the OEM cross bars on ebay (Mercedes Part number B6 781 2128), but one of the rubber strips which goes in the cross bar channel is missing.
It was making fairly bad wind noise, so I put some masking tape of the channel to see if that was the issue. Sure enough it was, as the noise was gone.
So, I need to find a replacement rubber strip insert to go into the cross bars.
I was told by my mechanic that those strips are not generally sold separably, as he spoke with the local dealer.
Does anyone know where I can purchase replacement strips?
I understand the cross bars are supplied by Thule, but I'm mot having nay luck with them.
Thanks for any help you can provide.

I also have wind noises coming from my roof
I have a GL450 2008. I recently notice strong wind noises as I'm going 45 miles per hour or more, and it is especially loud on freeway.
I took it to MB dealership for service and questioned about the noises. The consultant told me that I need the key to adjust the rack, so that the wind would hit a different angle and it would stop the noises.
I bought my car used over 1.5 years ago, and mistakenly didn't check for the key to the roof rack (I don't have the key). And from what I know, the rack and keys come in a package. I can't just order a key.
But I was thinking it shouldn't be the rack position, because we never adjusted or moved the rack. So my thinking is that maybe the noises is from the issue as JimPFL have. I'm checking on various website to get the full image of the rack and compare with what we have now. But I can't seem to have a full visibility of the rack image.
What do you think?
Please advice, I'm also new to this forum.

I got a set of crossbars off ebay, and they came with keys, but no rubber strip and the noise was LOUD at higher speeds. I couldn't find the strip at the dealer or from Thule, but found that round weatherstripping fit in the channel perfectly, and eliminated the noise. I have chrome racks, and a silver weatherstrip blends in well. A similar product is probably available in black.
