Air conditioner has mind of its own?

I have 36k miles on the car. Seems like the air condenser isn't kicking in when I want. Blows hot air for a while and then kicks in, and then turns off even though the cabin clearly isnt 65 degrees. And right when im about to blow my top, it kcks in again. Any ideas?

My 09 550 did the same thing at about 30k miles. Ended up being a faulty switch on the panel. Haven't had any issues since.

Which switch? The A/C on switch? Once the dealer replaced it all good?

GL 320cdi, Chevrolet Avalanchero, GLE 350 (on order)
Look out for hot or cold drinks in tall cups too close to the sensor in the dial on the left. My wife was having this problem, and her big drinks were confusing the little IR sensor...

Interesting. I don't have any big drinks there, but will definitely try cleaning it. It's 15 in this picture correct? Thanks!

I don't recall which switch in particular or if it was the entire panel. But once they replaced it everything has worked perfect.

I use big drinks all the time and have never had it act up.

well, the cleaning of the sensor didn't work. I guess I'll have to take it to the dealer.

If anyone was wondering, had to get the condenser replaced under warranty. I wonder how common this is.

When you note "condenser" you are likely referring to the compressor I assume? The condenser is in the front end along with the radiator, the compressor is attached to the engine and is the "mechanical" generator of the HVAC system, so to speak.

If they replaced under warranty you are of good fortune, because otherwise the cost would be a fortune.

Condenser was shorted they say. They had to take the whole bumper off so im assuming that was what you are describing.

Talking

Hi, just wondering how to turn on just the fan without turning on the A/C. The weather is getting cool enough to not use the A/C, but I like to get some fresh air from the outside.

Also anyone knows what the A/C REST button is for?

Sorry, I just bought a preowned 2008 GL450 and the manual is not too clear about this.

when that button is lit red, then the AC is on. If you press it and the red light goes out, then you are running the fan without AC.
