GL450 with snow skis/boards in back

Okay,

Some of you may know that Hertz (USA) rent out the GL450 now

I am looking to rent one of these for a ski trip

4 Adults with 3 x snow skis and 1 snowboard and some luggage.

The 2nd row of seats are only 60/40 and don't have a cutout for skis/board to fit between

Does anyone have any pictures of how much you can get in the back of the GL or any advice ?

sounds like you'll have to rent a roof rack too

Perhaps!

Chances are we'll rent the Escalade as there is heaps of room down the middle for the skis!

Good call. The GL would not be big enough for you. But would be more comfortable than the GM with the gear on the roof.

Rent a Suburban (or Escalade ESV, if they have it). Room for the skis down the middle and actual cargo space behind the 3rd row.

Still undecided...

The GL has 60/40 seats and a FULLY folding 3rd row
The Escalade has massive seats in the 3rd row, which when folded take up 1/4 of the boot space.

We are going the GL and just hope that Hertz have added some options to it.

From reading it looks like they add the P1 package, but not leather seats

I rented an Escalade once and really opened my eyes as to what a POS that vehicle is (and that was well before I bought the GL). It's basically a Chevy Tahoe with some cheap trim for the same price as a much better built GL.

We are a family of 3 and take our ski's and luggage on ski trips with the third row of seats folded down. Never has been an issue. Have not tried a snowboard though.

That about sums it up, yeah.

And the amazing thing is that they are WAY better than they used to be. Kind of boggles the mind.

GL 320cdi, Chevrolet Avalanchero, GLE 350 (on order)
I recently rented a Suburban, and I found it to be ok. I found the brakes particularly amazing. The GL rides, handles and generally drives better, so if you have lots of driving planned you may prefer it. You may be able to get all of that into the GL if you are creative, and don't care that much about rear visibility.

I think I am going to stick with the GL450 as it's simply too nice a machine to not have a decent drive!

There are 4 of us for some of the trip, but with 60/40 seats in the 2nd row, two people can sit side-by-side and the "40" section of the seat can fold down to allow the skis to slide in.

It's a shame that the equipment levels are far below that of the Cadallic Escalade or the Infinity QX56.
