Mpg
I used to get 25.5 mpg on my R350 for the same trip. So the diffrence on the Gl450 is only 18%. NOT BAD!
I can not upload a picture from my iPhone as a proof. I'll do it later.
I use about $ 150 wort of gas per month.
Your car would save me about $ 60 a month.
Considering the additional initial+maintenance cost, I rather keep my
2009 GL450.

Diesel here in Virginia is averaging .70 cents higher vs 87! Which I only run 87 in my escaldade, maybe the GL450 & GL550 require 93 so that would make since only being .30 cents higher.

#1. If anybody here has this SUV and trying to save couple hundred a year on a fuel bill - you probably driving the wrong car. Try to get to Toyota RAV4 or something...
#2. If I would lease - I'd get GL450 because of better lease deals.
#3. If I buy - I get GL350 because of high resale value and reliability of diesel engine compared to gasoline.
P.S. If I lease - I put only 87 gasoline to all of my cars after first 1000 miles. I don't care what is going to happen with this car after lease return.
Now is this true ? This seems like a never ending debate, does 93 gas really save gas mileage ?
On another note what do people put in there GL450 ? Is putting 91 really good enough ? Does 87 really make much difference in GAS used ? Is 93 really needed ?
I filled up my new GL450 with 91 and actually paid $91 if I would of done 93 I would of probably paid over $100 this is for a Tank of gas !!!!

It can also damage your engine too I believe. 91 Octane if I'm not wrong is standard only in California so if you're in California, then you're good. The engine can adapt to 91 octane without any problem. But anything lower is BAAAAD!
Next, I'm going to hear "I PUT DIESEL FUEL IN MY GASOLINE ENGINE AND SOMETHING IS WRONG!"

Do people see much difference on a 87 gas after 1k of course in a GL450 ?

I just said that if you put a lower reccommended octane fuel rating in your vehicle, then you WILL lose mpg, performance, and may (MAY) damage your engine.
And if you're complaining about spending 100 bucks per fill up with premium at the gas station everytime you're filling up a Mercedes GL, then don't drive it if you can't afford it.

That's just how it is. You WILL notice a decrease in overall drivability, performance and mpg if you put anything lower than 87 octane. You want to save some money on your lease? Fine. Go 91 octane. But if you really don't care about how the vehicle will perform everyday, just want to save money and just want to beat up the lease, then put whatever you want in the fuel tank.

Fortunately for me - there is no " 87 diesel " thing, so I have no choice, but my E class never sees 93 in NYC. I only put it when I'm in NJ, where it's about 40 cents cheaper.
