Ski rack recommendations for a GL

2011 GL 450

Ski rack recommendations for a GL

I need to get a set of ski racks for my '11 GL.

I was going to get geth OEM Chrome cross bars to match the rails on top of the car.

Has anyone tried THULE or Yakima Ski Racks to see if they fit fine on the MB OEM Crossbars?

Any recommendations?

Just put on the Thule ones a week ago. Got the aluminum "wing shaped" ones. It looks awesome!

I've been very happy with a Yakima Fat Cat on mine. Works fine with the factory cross bars, but you have to use the longer bolts on the clamp that goes over the bars.

I paid 423 plus shipping. A lot cheaper than my local dealer. Very easy to install and look great. I hate how some of the aftermarket cross bars stick up pretty high.

2013 GL350

There is a "clone" version of the oem crossbar available on ebay if you don't mind having black instead of chrome. On the OEM cross bar there is a removable rubber strip which covers a track designed to hold the bolts for the various accessories. This is a pretty slick set up. If you have a rack already, you can check if there is a adapter bolt kit.
