$ year/50K service advice
Taking the '08 GL 320 CDI in for its 50K service this Friday and as it's about 4 years old and the warranty is ending, I'm asking if there are any specific items I should have my SA look into. I have read about the steering rack leaking so that's on my list, but advice about anything else that has caused other owners trouble would be welcome.
Lastly the extended warranty offered by MB. Worth the money? My wife is wanting to keep the GL for at least 2 more years btw.

I would definitely consider buying the extra 3 years warranty if your keeping the car. The price of it went down the beginning of 2012 when I purchased mine. I had to show the guy a printout from the MB site as he didn't seem to know about the price reduction. Not sure if it was a sale thing or if it's still going on now. I've had other leaks like transmission, oil cooler lines at rad. CCV tube infront of turbo. Not big items but it adds up if not under warranty. Make sure everything works well with the Airmatic as that can get expensive I hear. The rack is definitely an item to check as mine is currently in the shop being looked for a leak.

$2355. The original price was about $1000 more but I found some promo on the MB website that gave discounts starting Jan 2012. 2 years full coverage, 3rd year only powertrain. This was the max they offered. I'm not sure if this was only for a short period or is still on. Worth checking out though as I paid $4500 extra for similar coverage on a Ford.

The Extended Limited Warranty can be purchased at any time during the new vehicle basic warranty period (48 months / 80,000 km), as long as the current owner purchased the vehicle from an authorized Mercedes-Benz dealer.
If you have a Star Certified Warranty from a Pre-Owned purchase, it can be upgraded to an Extended Limited Warranty at any time during the new vehicle basic warranty period, as long as the vehicle has been regularly maintained by an authorized Mercedes-Benz dealer. Depending on your model and date of purchase, $850 to $1,900 could be rebated off the purchase price of the Extended Limited Warranty

Does say the specific amount each is discounted but until I showed them this they didn't know about it. They checked and I got the discount.
