CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON

2007 GL320 CDI. CEL is on. (77,000 miles on car) Took in to mechanic and he pulled Error Code P2270. Says water pump has slow coolant leak onto alternator and belt. Wants $550 to replace and says that should take care of the CEL, HOWEVER thinks it could be the ECU. The light does go off occasionally for a short period of time. Mechanic reset it and says it was off but when I drove the car it was on again. Any suggestions or same experiences?

2270 is one or more glow plugs malfunctioning. You either have a bad plug or bad plug control unit. Read with das and see freeze data to determine what throws the code.

The mechanic may be trying to tell you 2 things are not as they should be - code 2270 - for the glo plug(s) AND a coolant leak that he sees which has nothing to do with the code thrown - just observation. If there IS a coolant leak, you should have to top up the coolant reservoir every so often.

After replacing the water pump, CEL was still on and glow plugs check out fine. Decided to replace the glowplug relay and all is well! Thanks for solving my problem!
