Satellite radio
Satellite radio
I just purchased a used 2007 GL450. I switched my sirius/xm account over to the new suv. The system says not receiving SAT. Yes I'm out in an open area, I've had Sat, radio for 5 years. Is there a trick to activating the radio on the GL?

If you got the barker channel BEFORE you switched the account then that should be all you need to do. If not, or if you didn't try that, than the antenna connection may be bad, or the antenna has 'gone south'. Mine came up with a 'searching for signal' dialog. It turns out the antenna had gone bad - at least that's what the dealer diagnostic said. It is a large combination AM / FM / GPS / sat radio antenna in the roof under the headliner. Dealer wanted $2100 + INSTALLATION TIME to fix! I balked at that approach and got CarToys to put a new, small, Sirus-XM radio on the dash for about $500 including $200 installation labor and all parts. I had them plug the output into the AUX port in the glove box so I didn't have to mess with FM reception. It is removable and is mounted on a plastic bracket just above the COMAND unit.
CarToys tried a new aftermarket antenna that plugged into the antenna wire under the L rear passenger seat but that didn't work. The new antenna is a small black 'puck' stuck to the outside of the car just above the windshield in the center. Very unobtrusive.
