Time To Quit Lurking
After lurking here for several weeks and sucking up information, I picked up a silver 2008 GL320 CDI for my wife Wednesday evening. It has 48,000 miles and the prior owner maintained the vehicle under MB’s CPO. I noted that the steering rack has already been replaced, so I hope that eliminates that worry.
I found a reputable shop to work on it, but I am accustomed to doing quite of bit of mechanical work myself. I guess I will weigh the difficulty of the repairs/maintenance as I go. The last time I worked on anything German was when I did an engine swap on my 72 Opel 1900 in front of my parent’s house. Since then, it has been strictly GM or Ford products, so I know I am in for a steep learning curve.

If you want to buy an extended warranty, do so before the CPO expires.
It will save you a little hassle (and about $100 in inspection fees)
I am enjoying my White 2008 GL320 just picked up last Friday.
