Just picked up a GL350 - LOVE IT. The whole family loves the drive. Its a LIMO. Can't wait to hitch the 4000lb trailer to see how it performs. I am hoping that I get better than 12MPG hauling a 4K trailer with diesel.

You will be nicely surprised. The gl chasis is desgned to isolate very well the clanging and banging typical when you tow. It is there, but compared to other SUVs it is very subdued.

yep, that is exactly why we have diesel locomotives and semi trucks that run on diesel. because they have no power to tow... or 5 plus passengers...

I have a picture with the same numbers (28.4 exactly) except for +25F temp. Not bad at all.

Saab Crazy
We have had the car for almost 10 days now, and I have to say that I'm shocked on the MPG .... Frankly, I can't believe the mileage that this car is getting ...

My wife's driving is pretty much all city, and I don't think I have seen anything below 20MPG, with highway drives right up there at 27 MPG at 75 MPH ..

Our expedition with the 28 gallon tank would be at the 1/4 tank level during this time (around 230 city miles of driving), but the the GL fuel gage is a little under 3/4 tank right now .... Amazing ... at this rate it will be one fill-up to 3 fill-ups to the expedition ...

I have to admit I love the gas mileage that this truck is getting. 20 MPG city, 25-27 Hwy. Love the rumble that the diesel makes when its working. We bought this truck for highway hauls of 5+ people and for towing, fully well knowing it was going to fall short of a gasser on acceleration. Can't wait to see what MPG we get towing.

Something that I have yet to notice... And I've driven big block V8s before on a lighter vehicles.

True that. For normal driving the diesel accelerates just as well as the v8. It is the ***** to the wall pedal to the metal when the v8 is faster. Remember, for the most frequently used rev range 1500-4000 rpms the diesel has more torque than the gasoline engine. In other words if you're not above 4500 rpms in the gasoline- you are not accelerating faster.

It is the lack of willingness to rev and the fact tht you have to push the throttle more (both natural diesel traits) that makes it feel slower.
