GL320 Brake Wear

Yes, I know driving style has a lot to do with this, however,I am looking for some input from other's experiences.

Dealer reported the rear pads have 4 mm left and said would probably not make it to the next service (10K miles).

From others experience, how long do the rear pads usually last?
I assume they start at 10 to 12 mm, but my experience is pads wear a little slower at the end than at the beginning, so a linear estimate is usually safe.

If they are wearing evenly (Dealer said they were) is it generally safe to wait for the sensors to tell me I need new pads?

How long after the warning comes up do I have (generally)?

Assuming no scoring or other issues, do they usually need new rotors with every pad change, or is that just an "MB Make it like new" thing?

P.S. 2008 with 100K miles

Rears last about 50k with gentle driving.

Yours must have been done once (or twice if women drivers)

Rotors usually can be done every other change. Dealer will insist new rotors every time.

Our '08 just had the 60K mile service. I had our SA check the condition of the brakes even though no warning light had come on yet. He replaced the front pads only and stated the rotors were in great shape, and that the rear brakes were probably good until 100K miles at this point in time. It's my wife's car and she has been the driver 95% of the time.

I did my 1st pad replacement at 92K miles on the front. The rears didn't really need it but I did them anyway. Rotors were still in specs so I did not replace them. I used Rotax Gold pads and they are virtually dustless. Very happy with them. Now have 145K miles and pads are still excellent. 50% of my driving is highway so I will get more miles out of a set of pads.

Sounds like the dealers are a bit conservative and I think I will wait for at least better weather and probably till the sensor tell me. (unless fall is coming, as I don't want to do them in the winter.)

Will have to check the rotors, but I bet they are in spec. (They look good as of now)
