Whinning noise when I slow down and turn steering wheel
I have recently noticed a whinning noise (sometimes louder than others) when I slow down and when I turn the steering wheel. This seems to happen only shortly after I crank it....after it "warms-up" the noise doesn't usually happen. Any thoughts?

I had exactly the same thing happen over the last few days - a whining sound related to engine speed not vehicle speed. I suspected power steering because at its worst I could feel it in the steering wheel. But it went away after the engine warmed up.
I checked everywhere I could think of and couldn't find the PS reservoir [and besides I wasn't sure I had any suitable PS fluid in my garage]. SO I took it to my local indy shop and we found the PS reservoir right behind the oil filter assembly - no marking at all on the filler cap/dipstick - and plain dull black plastic. The oil did show on the little dipstick but was below the 'add' mark.
The mechanic put in only about 50 ml of fluid and it was full. AND the noise went away and hasn't come back!! He commented "Hmmm sensitive to fluid level isn't it?" He didn't even charge for the 5 min it took him!!

BlownV8 - were you responding to me or the OP? My GL has 86,000 mi on it and this is the first time I've had to do anything to the power steering. If I have a leak it is a MICROleak. The only thing I plan to do is keep an eye on it. My purpose in responding to the OP was to indicate that on mine, a very slight reduction in reservoir level caused the 'whine'. NOTHING was running 'dry' which might have caused damage.
