Yes, it is all part of the headlamp assembly. I would buy Bi-Xenon. Even though I got mine with leveling, I don't really value that a lot. How come, you have lighting package without Xenon? I thought that lighting package means to get Xenon in first place plus washing system.

1.
I ended up buying the cable harness from KabelDaviko - http://www.kabeldaviko.de/product_in...n-harness.html. Even though, it is possible to buy all parts for this cable harness from dealer but it does not make sense to go this route. You also need to provide Headlamp part number during checkout in order to get the right cable harness.

2.
Cowfunone provides a great DIY for ML series which is really close except programming. You can find it here: http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w164...20-cdi-bi.html

FYI,
The light obviously is a huge improvement over what was. I was planning to create some sort of DIY but still trying to overcome a minor issue I am having. As a result, I am waiting until I fix this issue. The issue is while the light switch is in position Low Beam and key is removed from ignition switch then the low beam light is not turned off automatically. I must turn it off by using the light switch. It works well when the light switch is in position Auto. The light goes off as it should be. Everything else seems to work great.
Nice work! Did you ever resolve your issue with the light not turning off? Did you post a DIY on your project?

No did not fix that yet. I heard that maybe I need to buy another light switch with a button for Lamp Cleaning option. I am not sure it will help but the reason for that is that most of Xenon enabled GLs have this light switch.

Regarding the DIY, I did not have time for that. However, I already provided here all information that you need anyway. Follow DIY for ML164. These are almost the same cars.

Out of curiosity- did the self leveling function of the xenon units start working? or was there some additional sensor needed? I'm looking at an older 2007 diesel, and if I bought it I would add xenon units.

Thanks

The lights move up and down on start. It means that the leveling motors are initiated on start. However, it is difficult for me to test how leveling system works while I am driving. Overall, it is a huge improvement over Halogen lamps and I am happy with the results.

I am curious though if the auto leveling function is a switch or the logic in already in the vehicle already. If it doesn't auto-level, then you might face a ticket when it blinds an oncoming driver when you load the back end down.

I have to look on the schematics on the vehicle to see what powers the Hella leveling motor in the headlight unit.. does anyone else know offhand?

It should be a logic built in. The computer takes level values from shock sensors and probably some other values such as speed and steering wheel angle. Based on these values, it determines the position of the headlamps.

I still have my lights sitting in their boxes.

Has anyone done this on a 2010- 2012 yet?

Is the procedure the same?

Bump. 2012 here and no factory HID. I want an easy way to do this with no errors.

Also, it has the LED strip lights in the bumper but they don't do the BRIGHT daytime running light light the models with the lighting package have. How do you get them to go bright, is there a hack or jumper??
