Keyless entry problems

Has anyone else experienced this problem with the keyless entry system. If you have the key in a bag/purse etc and open the rear tailgate the car does not unlock. You put your bag in and press the close hatch button. You have now locked yourself out. This has happened to me and my wife. Is there away around this? Doesn't seem the car should work this way. This is on a 2012 GL550. Very annoying. Lucky to have MBrace bail me out by unlocking the car although if your phone is in the bag to your screwed.

...you wouldn't think so. If the key is within the required proximity (within a meter of the vehicle ive been informed) the locking mechanism should give you access. What did MBrace had to say when they bailed you out?

One of the rear keyless go antennas is malfunctioning. Have the car read to pinpoint which of the rear antennas is gone. There will be a specific code stored pointing to the broken one.

It shouldn't. The truck is not seeing the keyfob because one of the rear antennas is bad. This is a common problem.

Reading this, it sounds like opening the rear hatch doesn't unlock the entire car, just the hatch itself, correct? I wonder if that is a setting which can be changed?

What I don't understand is why the key worked to unlock the hatch the initial time, but not subsequently to retrieve the key. The only scenario in which that would occur, to my mind, would be if the antennae failed just after the hatch closed.

I just checked my 2008 GL320, keyless go, and if the doors are locked when you open the tailgate the doors do not unlock. You can then close the tailgate by pushing the left button(not the lock button) and the doors stay locked.

Dealer says there is not a fix for this problem. MB thinks u will keep the key in your pocket and didn't plan for this. So it is very easy to lock yourself out if open the tailgate when car is locked and put the key in the back while its in a purse, golf bag etc. and then push the close hatch button. The car does not unlock and won't recognize the key in the back when you go to open the door. Be warned and hope you subscribe to Mbrace for help.

This is only the case if the hatch is not opening keyless. The car does not unlock when you only open the hatch. Touch a door handle first or you will lock yourself out.
