2010 GL450 Rear Seat Entertainment question
Just got a CPO 2010 GL450 as a surprise for my wife, traded in her old Sienna minivan and showed up with the Mercedes. She was very surprised, and she loves it. Just one problem, the rear seat entertainment system is either not working properly, or seriously crippled.
First off, I'm assuming it's a factory reat seat entertainment system, but maybe it was dealer installed? I've attached a picture of what the system looks like, found the picture on ebay but it looks exactly the same including the wireless headphones and remote.
Anyway, my problem. When I put a dvd in the Command system up front I cannot get it to play on the rear screens. I checked the manual, and I tried the dvd menu item labelled something like "active rear source" (can't remember exactly right now). It does play on the front screen in park. The rear system remote has an "input" button, which cycles between dvd - aux1 - aux2 - aux3. Dvd is the disc in the unit, aux2 is a disc playing in the opposite screen, but I don't' seem to have an input for video from Command up front.
When I put a dvd in one of the rear units it plays, but audio only comes through the headphones, I cannot get audio to com through the cars speakers. The command system "audio" menu has many sources, one of which is named "rear", but it's not working.
So, we've got a problem on long trips, I want to be able to swap DVDs from the front without stopping the car and have it play on the rear screens. Any help on this? Am I screwed? I hope I'm not screwed, the minivan I got rid of could do this easily and I would really stink if the Mercedes couldn't handle this use case.

I'm not sure about the 2010 but on my 2008 the dvd in the front dash was for the navigation disc NOT the dvd movie. The actual dvd player was underneath the rear passenger side seat. Check there.

OK, if it's a Mercedes add-on part and not factory, does that mean there is no way to link the Command video up front to the rear screens? Or the audio from the rear screens to the Command audio up front? I'm wondering if the limitations are what they are, or if maybe this thing was wired / installed incorrectly.

well it's hard to say unless we know exactly what you have. Do you have a model and/or part#? It appears in the pic as though it is a MB entertainment system but we really need to know the part#. Ultimately you should be able to go right back to the dealer and/or call them and ask them what is going on. If they can't talk you through it then you should be able to bring it back so they can make it right.
