2008 GL450
Reset Check Engine Light - 2008 GL450
I changed my oil yesterday and everything seemed to go smoothly. When i started the vehicle this morning the Check Engine light came on. I'm not completely sure, but it seems to idle a little rougher too.

How do i reset the check engine light so I can tell if it comes back on or not. I see how-to's on just about every year but the 2008.

How do i find the code? And where do i look that code up at?

Any good ODB reader than has CAN capability will give you the code.

Some even translate it for you, some come with a book and some point you to a web site.

Is there a way to jumper the connector and read the flashing light? i've done that in a few other OBDII cars?

this gm-like functionality is not available on your truck. or any other modern german car.

if you are going to be doing your own maintenance invest in a star setup

If all you are looking for are standard codes, a $20 ebay ODB/CAN reader is a good start before investing $700+ in a Star set up.

Resetting the codes without reading them is like a Dr. telling you to take a pain killer before asking "what hurts".

using the standard odb2/can reader is the easiest way to get really confused. lots of the main codes that get thrown are the tail of a bazaar chain of events that triggered mb-specific codes that triggered often unrelated main code which is the only one (or few) you can read with the odb2/can reader.

the star setup is $350 if you have already a laptop

So what was the result of the check engine light? I just got gas this past week and soon after the light went on. I made sure the gas cap was on tight and it was as I know sometimes that puts the light on.
