Mercedes GL450, 2007 - Transmission 722.904 Oil pan updates
I found two oil pan updates records in WIS:
1.TRANSMISSION 722.901
To improve fluid supply to the transmission, the transmission oil pan and the overflow tube have been redesigned.
The characteristic sloped surface (arrow) can be used to identify the new oil pan (1). This oil pan configuration should be installed only together with the white overflow tube (2).
The fluid temperatures used as references for checking and refilling are different with the new components.
Whenever a transmission is removed for repairs, the earlier oil pan (3) with the black overflow tube (4) should be replaced by the new sloped-surface version (1) with the white overflow tube (2).
2. New transmission oil pan (1) version, as of 21.6.2010
The transmission oil pan (1) and the overflow pipe (2) have been redesigned to optimize the oil feed of the transmission. The new transmission oil pan version (1) is recognizable by its oval forms (see arrows).
This transmission oil pan (1) may only be installed with the green overflow pipe (2).
Old transmission oil pan (1) version, up to 18.6.2010 The old transmission oil pan (1) version can be recognized by the chamfer (arrow). This transmission oil pan (1) may only be installed with the white overflow pipe (2).
I assume that the first update is applicable for GL450, 2007 but not sure for 100%. I think that the second update is for the car models after 21.6.2010. it can be wrong too. Does anyone know the right solution? Any help is highly appreciated.
On the fill tube the green one is correct. The parts guy gave me a white one and it was too long which would render a incorrect fluid level. I used the green, sorry i do not have that part number. I purchased the special drift to remove the fill tube but i think you could use a variety of different tools and do not feel this is mandatory to remove it.
On the fluid the red 134 is all they carry. My 2011 had a dark green in it as well as the transfer case. The current replacement is the red. Also go get the fluid at a Frieghtliner Sprinter dealer, 1/2 the price for the same part number on the fluid.
I think that changing the oil pan is applicable for cars before 2010 made. Yours is 2011. I think you did not have to update the oil pan. I can be wrong. I just saw the movie from MB SD collection of instructions where they mentioned that after middle of 2010 MB supplies the cars with updated 722.9 transmission where the plastic overflow pipe is green and oil is in bluish color.
