2008 Nav Com Unit

2008 Nav Com Unit
All of a sudden my nav has started telling me that it cannot read the dvd. I take the disc out and clean it and put it back in. It will work for a week or so and do it again. Is this an issue with the disk itself or is it the head unit?

Well I finally got around to taking out my nav unit. I was concerned about driving the car and using the phone/radio without the nav. Turns out it is no issue at all. It was an easy 20 minute job to take out. I have sent it to Alpine Auto Sound in NJ for repair to the tune of $250 which is MUCH cheaper than the dealer who wanted to replace the whole head unit. I will let you know how it turns out.

I received the unit back and installed it this weekend. Works like a charm and I get a 1 year warranty. The only small issue is all my stored addresses are gone. Oh well, that is better than a Garmin sitting on my dash and I can slowly start putting the addresses back in.
