Winter tire downsize, any limitations?

I am looking to put winter tires on my '11 GL550. I have been running the stock conti cross contact 295/40/R21 for the past 2 winters, but at 65K km they need to be changed (dealer was surprised how many kms on them!). I have a lead on a set of 4 Nokian wr 275/40/R20 M + S with low mileage, on Borbet rims. Do I need to be concerned with dropping the tire size 1"? Will this affect ABS braking, speedometer, etc?

Your speedo will run a little slow but should be totally fine. You will likely want to run some spacers if the offset is for the GL450 or those skinny little tires are going to look silly under the flared fenders of the GL550.

(My sig shows 285-50-20's with no spacers on the GL450 and I will be running 10mm front and 20mm rear this winter because I did not like how the car looked last winter)
