Not into horse pulls, but there are some interesting engines in the tractor pulls.

Didn't notice Draught Horse Racing or Tractor Pulling at Le Mans, but there are a few diesels to take note of there!

Not sure where the 25:1 compression ratio comes from. The Mercedes info I have indicates that , for the OM642 engine, the design compression ratio - based on the physics of bore, stroke and combustion chamber design - is between 15 and 16:1. That allows the starter motor to have lower load, smaller current draw, longer life and all kinds of other benefits. It is made possible because of the very high response frequency of the piezoelectric injectors.

Sorry, that number came from my indirect injection days where it was common to see 20-25:1 ratios. I was using basic diesel facts where compressing the air to a very high pressure allows for lower ignition temps for glow plugs.

Dont forget about this tuner, they are widely known among the JEEP/Sprinter community as those variant share the om642, I have confirmed in the past that they have great tunes for ml/gl320 cdi (07, 08)

actually with 16:1 static and 24 psi of boost (at full tilt) you get about 43:1 compression at sea level...

Only if you assume a perfectly free flowing intake system.

As I recall, the question I was answering mostly concerned starting issues. With that assumption, compression when running or at max turbo performance are not very relevant.
