Need Wheel & Tire Size Advise

I just purchased a used 2007 GL450. It has 22" wheels and 305/40R/22 tires.

Is there an advantage to having 22" wheels as opposed to 18" wheels?

I have some good snow tires and was thinking of getting a set of 18" wheels for those and new regular tires in the Spring. I would think 18" tires would be cheaper than 22" tires.

I'd appreciate everyone's thoughts.

Appearance would be the number one advantage. Other than that, just make sure you have brake clearance, which shouldn't be an issue with 18's.

Going with the 22's in winter snow is not a good idea. The wide track of a low profile allows more snow to build up in front of the tread. Most of the best snow tires are sized for 18-19's anyways. Tire chains are cheaper in 18's and easier to install if the conditions mandate chains.
