GL450 Fuel Gauge not working after body repair?
I have a customer that came in for some bodywork on her GL450 (minor hit on the right rear)
It sat in the rain for a bit after the accident and the rear SAM got drenched.
Only issue it had was one of the reverse lights staying on, so I pulled the SAM, cleaned out all of the corrosion with hopes that it would work again, but no luck.
Installed a new SAM and all was well with the lights, however, the fuel gauge reads empty
I thought perhaps she brought it in like that, but soon after it was delivered, the owner filled it up and the gauge remains empty
Does the rear SAM have anything to do with the fuel gauge?
If so, does it need to be re-flashed or reset? (the battery was never disconnected for the repairs)

You need to interrogate the fuel sender via das and see if values are "plausible".
Also new SAM needs to be coded to vehicle- if I remember correctly. This is done again- via das.
Rear Sam reads both signals from fuel senders- so yes- it is most likely the culprit or the accident jolted something in the area and the fuel sender is dead.
If you are working on benzes you need das
Btw water in the rear Sam of x164 is common.

I pulled some codes (even though it didn't have an MIL)
PO461
P2068
C0002
PO660
Cleared them and the gauge still remains on "E"
Replaced the new SAM with the original and the gauge started working as it should, so I'm guessing it just needs to be re-coded
Taking it to a local MB specialist to have it done tomorrow cause the stealership wants $300 bucks just to re-code

p2068 is turbine sensor in tranny- this code randomly shows and has no effect, or when it shows and the tranny barfs - indicates the conductor plate in the tranny needing replacement (among other things)
C0002 if everything works can be ignored
P0660 is intake actuator valve error. this means the mechanized flapper in the intake is dead/ broken. typical on x164. depending on how it is stuck results in better high rpm performance or better low rpm performance at the expense of fuel economy and smoothness
