Used GL350 vs GL450 for me?

Getting rid of my wife's X3, which we love, to better fit our 2 kids + carpool stuff.

GL made the very short list of possible vehicles and is the front runner and likely one we'll go with.

Intending to buy a CPO due to the awesome incentives for that this month.

Couple options:

GL350 with 60-70k miles
GL450 35-40k miles

We will keep the car 3-4 years tops and do 15-16k miles a year.

Given that some of that time will be CPO covered and maintenance is covered for 2 of the years... which is the more reliable choice? Searching the forums didn't really give me the direct answer.

Since you say you will have the car 3-4 yrs tops the 350 (Diesel) will likely cost you less in depreciation since diesels generally are more in demand and therefore have a higher resale value - everything else being equal.
Fuel (premium vs diesel) will be about the same per gallon and the diesel should get about 20% better mileage than the 450 driving the same roads at the same times.
It you ever tow something [camper trailer, etc] the diesel will really shine.
Check with a site like Truedelta to see if you can detect a meaningful maintenance cost difference for the year/model you are looking at.
The 350 w/ 60-70k miles is really just getting broken in. Most of the Mercedes diesels really start to shine beginning at about 80k mi.

350 will have better resale, mileage, but will also be more likely to break down. Too many issues with the 350 to own after the warranty runs out. Just read this forum and you will see all the issues 320/350 owners are having. The 450 will be more fun to drive and also more dependable.

As long as you are under warranty, go with the one that drives the best and checks all the boxes for you. The diesel didn't do it for me. Some really love their diesels while others hate them. For me, the 450 has been great. I plan to put around 300,000 miles on my 450 it before I get another 450. More than half way there and it is still running like it was when new.

Since sdanaher hasn't responded in 6 days perhaps the question was rhetorical!

Get an ECU tune on that engine and you will have over 500 hp. Good choice. You should be happy with the x166 GL.
