P0016 / P0017
Getting these codes? Are these cam sensors on the heads or is this the dreaded timing chain gear/stretched timing chain? Is there a link to a repair procedure? I was told by MB dealer it was in fact a "balance shaft" despite the fact there isn't one on a v8... and they wanted an ABSURD amount of money to redo the timing chain, and all the associated parts. Any input, I searched the forums and could not find a post specific to the GL 450.
This is a 2007 GL 450. I like the vehicle a lot, but I cannot spend like $10k to fix it, it would be a waste, however, the indies I have discussed this with have many opinions on the issue that are all over the board. Does anyone with significant experience have any input here?
Vehicle has 170k miles on it. I have had several issues in the past with misfires, the tranny was rebuilt under warranty, etc. It was a CPO with a warranty to 100k. I drive all over the US and Canada for work and honestly like the ride and the fact that no matter what is thrown at me, I can safely get though.
