I am looking at some GL450s and have noticed they are well priced and have good mileage. I need to get rid of the ML and get something else. So what are some must haves and look out for things on these cars? Also reliability and issues. Thanks

I love my 450. There are a few nagging issues across all the X164 GL's: air struts leaking, trunk latch breaking, window trim peeling, leaking power steering reservoir, and transmission turbine speed sensor/valve body. I also had a bad water pump which from what I've read is very unusual. Some also have bad power steering racks. However, nothing has driven me to another car. The GL is just a great drive.

My GL 450 has around 170,000 miles and runs like a top. I change the oil every 10,000 miles and have never had to add any oil. I've been running regular unleaded fuel and it's been running great using the lower octane fuel. In fact, it seems to idle smoother with regular than premium.

Happy with my GL. Drives nice. Great family car. Also had issue with leaking air strut and trunk latch but fixed under warranty.

Before I bought my S550, I went to check out a GL450. The guy selling it said that he replaced the shocks. The trunk latch sounded weird when I closed it. I knew it would be something that would cause issues. What about options?

Gl450
start with 2009 or better if you can, must haves...lighting package(hid lights), rear ac and tv package if you have kids, ads suspension would be nice but alot dont have it, cooled seats, memory seats save some time switching drivers and passengers, ipod, keyless entry. as far as issues go it could be anything, they come and they go, when they come sometimes it cost thousands of dollars if you cant do the work yourself. in our opinion the gl 450 and 550 are high maintance suvs. however they are very fun, strong, safe, and comfy to drive!
