No offense but around me, most GL's are driven by soccer moms whose hubbies bought them this $90k SUV because it was cuter than the Lexus and she doesn't know a v8 engine from a tomato based juice product ...
Sorry you're unimpressed, tons of traffic on more popular models that men tend to write about such as amg anything, w212, c class....

Oh, and you'd be amazed how well this thing handles when giving it 50% throttle mid-turn around 3200 rpm......
Airmatic will reduce the ride height somewhere north of 100

Do you want to wear out your brake pads or transmission? Brake pads and rotors are much cheaper. Besides, how are you wearing out pads and rotors in 20k miles? I get 100k from rotors and, at least, 50K from pads.

also, even if we provide you with the answer there is a good chance that you will not be able to utilize it as it might require advanced auto mechanic skillset and/or proper tools.
in addition many folks come here and post non-actionable questions - like "my check engine light is on and pepboys scanned it and found nothing. what is my problem?". well, the car needs to be plugged in star/das and read.
most "mystery" problems require star/das readout. the average joe does not have the tool and therefore cannot ask a meaningful questions.
in a nutshell- if a question is asked and there are no answers- there is a good chance you are not providing enough info for a meaningful answer.

Well, they designed paddle shifters onto the steering wheel, I presume, so that they can be used....I'm not sure how this is operating outside of design specs

Hopefully
Hopefully in time the GLs will get into the hands of enthusiasts from the hands of leasee's. I have had a couple of mechanical items that it has been nice to bounce off others with the same issue even if they are not physically doing the work. Part of the fun for a enthusiast is just discussing maintenance etc. with other owners.

Ha funny thread.
Every car I've owned in the past had a much more active online community than the GL. But as others have stated in this thread, it makes sense why it is so. Still, I found lots of good info on here relating to the GL on here. Been very helpful!

Also check out the ML thread.
Mechanically they are almost the same, and there are a lot more of them.

Yeah, this forum kinda lacks in the personality and charm dept. Everyone's more lively in the Club Lexus forums.
It's tough for the SUV driving soccer mom's to answer to posts here, especially while they're breast feeding.

Your original post is part of the reason that I bought an S8 instead of a GL. Yes, that comparison sounds strange, but the S8 still has all wheel drive and lots of room, and the online community is spot on at Audiworld.
The GL is mostly driven by soccer-moms but I did love the truck and likely will own one in future. But it will be under warranty and will have to look better than the Jellybean X166. I loved the way the X164 handled and looked as well as the size of it, but I went S8 and am happy I did so. It's been an absolute beast in the snow this year, the worst on record for New England.
On another note, I think Merc has really screwed up by making their diagnostic tools so unobtainable or ridiculously expensive. A Ross-Tech cable for my car is $300 and I can be an audi tech on my own time, even if I'm a ****ty wrench--at least I can pinpoint the problems and do minor DIY work or point my indy in the right direction.

Also, from an interior space perspective, the rear seats are a decoration in the Q7 and were a reason that I was looking at a big SUV. Had I gone that route, a GL it would have been.
