NOx sensor issue

NOx sensor issue
I have 2011 E350 Bluetec w/35,xxx miles and 2011 GL350 bluetec w/54,xxx miles and both of them now have CEL on...
I relocated to oversea and have local MB dealer to check e350 out and they told me NOx sensor seemed to be bad... and asking about $950 for parts and another $100 for labor.
both cars have extended warranty but I guess it is only good if they are still in state.... which is very sucks. I still have to take GL to find out the issue though.
as I mentioned above, could this issue be affected by diesel we are getting here which could be different than state side?
Is it common that NOx sensor to go out for diesel cars?
How hard is to get it replaced?
Have you had any luck or found a way to get bad parts replaced under warranty from state side MB dealer when you are relocated to US military stationed in oversea?

Mine failed at almost exactly the same mileage last year. It was replaced under warranty by my US dealer. I'm very careful about the fuel I buy and the vehicle has been maintained according to the Mercedes specifications. The service advisor told me that they commonly see these fail when the wrong oil is used habitually (i.e. not the low-ash stuff).

Thanks for your response and I happened to find out diesel gas spec in Korea.

So is this considered as low ash?
both of them were maintained by MB dealer when I was in state.

Why are you speculating about something without having even basic details?
Ask for the DAS diagnostic codes and post them here. We will try to help you once we know more. And yes- nox sensors are known to go bad.
On diesel fuel- call MB in Korea and ask them about the fuel and what their stance is on it.
