Will 255/60/19's work?
Hello all, long time reader, first time poster (I think).
Most folks in here probably have the means to throw on a set of Michelin Pilot Latitude Sports when the time comes (which is what is on there now), but I'm not a typical owner of this vehicle I guess. Raising 3 kids and have a stay at home wife, God bless her, so money is tight! I bought our 2007 GL450, used, at 49k miles two years ago. I mainly got it because it met our needs, hauled 7 souls, was nicer and was the same money as the 2012 Explorer Limited we were looking at. We tow, occasionally, our 6,300 lb. travel trailer so the tow rating on the GL made up my mind....Long story but now you know where I might be coming from with my question.
I need tires in the next couple thousand miles. I can't believe the cost of most of the 275/55/19 options. I've done my research and found that 255/60/19 tires, with most brands, are within 1/2 % of the overall diameter, meaning no speedometer issues. Now factor in that a lot of the brands I'm looking at cost 2/3 the amount for the 255/60/19 vs. its 275/55/19 counterpart. I've also compared rotations per mile (674 vs. 670 as one example), weight, load ratings, acceptable rim widths and tread width. All seem within very reasonable tolerances.
Does anyone see any reason I can't go with this slight downsize? I live in the mid-south so, and except for this year, we rarely see snow. I truly appreciate any input anyone may have.
Thanks All!

You should be fine as long as you can find the tires meet your load requirments (such as 110H and above). Otherwise, you may have difficulty to find the place to install the tires.

new to me '07
My '07 came to me with 100k miles, a fortune just spent on it by previous owner, i.e. new tranny, torque converter, rear suspension air ?, brakes, etc., etc., 305/40-22 Nexen Roadian tires. I like the way it looks and drives and I hope I can get the second 100k with minimal problems.
