Bad CV or bad axle spline?

2007 GL320 98000 miles.

Recently, under moderate to strong acceleration in first gear, I am hearing some "thunking" like something is slipping, on the drivers side front. The Traction Control kicks in a little and it feels like something is slipping.

I can do a recording of it if needed. I am hoping it is not the axle spline.

Anyone have something similar like this happen? I tried to search but did not find anything that was related.

Thank you in advance for any response!

Bad sound

I hate to bring it up but that may be a bad transfer case. There is a chain in there that has a tensioner, if it slips it can make that hard jerking and metal popping sound.

YIKES!!! Would that sound only happen on the drivers side? Not so much "metal" more thinking.. Yes yes I know... your definition may be different. ugh....

Still you have my attention...... Could I drain the transfer case to see if there are the dreaded metal shavings?

Transfer Case

Dont forget the front driveshaft is more on the drivers side. The transfer case only holds like a quart, I would drain er down and examine the fluid. Make sure you refill with ATF 134.

I am no expert but have seen what you describe....

Have you ever changed the transfer case fluid?
